SSV SmartAccount App Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy sets out how SSV SmartAccount Limited uses and protects your personal data when you use the SSV SmartAccount mobile application (the App). This policy is in addition to any Privacy Policy that applies when you use SSV's website.

Consent to installation of the App

By installing and using the SSV SmartAccount App, you acknowledge that we process your personal data as described in this Privacy Policy. Where required by applicable law, we will request your consent before processing specific categories of personal data, such as marketing communications. You may withdraw your consent at any time where applicable.

Introduction

This policy applies to your use of the SSV SmartAccount mobile application and any services accessible through it, unless a separate privacy policy applies to a particular service.

SSV SmartAccount Limited is the controller and responsible for your personal data. If you have any questions, including requests to exercise your legal rights, please contact us using the details in the Contact Details section below.

Important information about SSV SmartAccount

The App is intended only for individuals aged 18 years or older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18.

The personal data we collect

We may collect, use, store and transfer the following categories of personal data:

  • Identity Data - first name, last name, username, date of birth, gender, title
  • Contact Data - email address and telephone numbers
  • Financial Data - bank account name, number, and payment information
  • Transaction Data - details about payments to and from you and services you use
  • Technical Data - IP address, login data, browser type and version, time zone, plug-ins, operating system, platform, Device ID
  • Profile Data - username, password, purchases, interests, preferences, feedback
  • Usage Data - information about how you interact with our products and services
  • Device Data - device type, unique device identifier (e.g. IMEI), mobile network, operating system, browser type, time zone
  • Marketing and Communications Data - your preferences for receiving marketing and communication preferences
  • Content Data - information stored on your device
  • Biometric Data - facial images, liveness checks, or facial image comparison data used for identity verification and authentication. Identity verification may be processed by providers such as Veriff. Fraud and transaction screening may involve providers such as Sumsub, where required for KYC/KYT, fraud prevention, regulatory compliance, or legal obligations.

We also collect aggregated statistical or demographic data which does not directly or indirectly identify you.

Camera and Photo Access

The App may request access to your camera and photo library so you can take or upload images for profile updates, identity verification, KYC checks, and supporting documents. For example, you may use the camera to take a profile photo or complete a live identity verification check.

Camera and photo access is only used when you choose to take or upload an image within the App. You can manage camera and photo permissions at any time in your device settings.

Microphone Access

The App may request access to your microphone during identity verification (for example, when a live verification check requires audio). Microphone access is only used for that purpose. You can manage microphone permission at any time in your device settings.

Device biometric authentication

The App may use device biometric authentication (such as Face ID or fingerprint) to help you securely sign in or unlock the App. This authentication is performed by your device. Where biometric templates are stored, they remain on your device and are not accessible to SSV SmartAccount.

How is your personal data collected?

Information you give us

Information you provide when you register to use the App, apply for an account, use our banking services, make or receive payments, contact us, take part in customer research or competitions, or apply to act as a power of attorney.

Information we collect automatically

Each time you use the App we automatically collect Device, Content, Usage, and Technical Data using software development kits (SDKs), analytics tools, and similar technologies. Information from third parties

  • Griffin Bank - our embedded banking infrastructure provider
  • Service providers such as Google Firebase (for push notifications and crash reporting)
  • Credit reference agencies (TransUnion, Equifax, Experian)
  • Identity verification and fraud prevention providers (including Veriff and Sumsub, and other agencies such as CIFAS, Synectics, and Napier where applicable)
  • Other lenders you use that we are connected with, such as peer-to-peer platforms or mortgage providers

OTP Autofill

Our App uses autofill functionality solely to automatically fill in One-Time Passwords (OTPs) during registration and authentication for your convenience. OTPs are processed locally on your device solely to assist with authentication. SSV SmartAccount does not store, retain, or share OTP contents.

How we use your personal data

We will only use your personal data when the law allows it. The lawful bases we rely on are: your consent; performance of a contract with you; our legitimate interests (where your interests and rights do not override these); and compliance with a legal or regulatory obligation.

  • To install the App and register you as a new user - Data: Identity, Contact, Financial, Device. Lawful basis: Your consent.
  • To deliver banking services and process payments - Data: Identity, Contact, Financial, Transaction, Device. Lawful basis: Your consent; performance of contract; legitimate interests.
  • To manage your account and notify you of changes - Data: Identity, Contact, Financial, Profile, Marketing & Communications. Lawful basis: Your consent; performance of contract; legitimate interests; legal obligation.
  • To enable you to complete surveys - Data: Identity, Contact, Device, Profile, Usage, Marketing & Communications. Lawful basis: Your consent; performance of contract; legitimate interests.
  • To administer and protect our business and the App - Data: Identity, Contact, Device. Lawful basis: Legitimate interests; legal obligation.
  • To prevent fraud and money laundering - Data: Identity, Contact, Financial, Transaction, Device. Lawful basis: Legitimate interests; legal obligation.
  • To verify your identity and complete KYC checks for account verification, fraud prevention, anti-money laundering checks, and compliance with legal and regulatory obligations - Data: Identity, Contact, Device, Camera and Photo, Microphone, Biometric. Lawful basis: Legal obligation; legitimate interests.
  • To carry out automated decision-making on transactions - Data: Identity, Financial, Transaction, Device. Lawful basis: Your consent; performance of contract; legal obligation.
  • To deliver marketing communications (where consented) - Data: Identity, Contact, Device, Profile, Usage, Marketing & Communications. Lawful basis: Your consent; legitimate interests.
  • To send push notifications and support App stability (Firebase) - Data: Device, Usage, Technical. Lawful basis: Legitimate interests.

Direct marketing

During registration you will be asked to indicate your preferences for receiving direct marketing from SSV SmartAccount. We may analyse your data to identify products or services that may interest you and send relevant marketing communications where you have consented.

Opting out

You can ask us to stop sending marketing communications at any time by following the opt-out links in any marketing message, by updating your marketing preferences in the App, or by contacting us at info@ssvsmartaccount.co.

Disclosures of your personal data

We may share your personal data with:

  • Griffin Bank - our embedded banking infrastructure partner
  • Affiliated companies and group entities
  • Partners, suppliers, and sub-contractors
  • Credit reference agencies: TransUnion, Equifax, Experian
  • Identity verification and fraud prevention providers: Veriff, Sumsub, CIFAS, Synectics, Napier
  • The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)
  • Tax authorities, police, and other law enforcement agencies
  • Regulators - where we are under a duty to disclose to comply with a legal obligation, prevent fraud, or protect rights, property, or safety
  • Third parties in the event of a sale, merger, or acquisition of part or all of our business
  • Open Banking providers, Marketplace partners, and organisations integrated via our API - only where you have given permission.

Our App may contain links to third-party websites and apps. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please review their privacy policies before submitting any information.

Automated decision-making

We use automated systems to help make decisions about whether to offer you an account or product, and to detect and prevent fraud or money laundering. These systems draw on data from credit reference agencies, fraud prevention agencies, and biometric tools, and are regularly reviewed for fairness and accuracy.

If your application is declined you have the right to request a full review by a human. Contact us in the App or email info@ssvsmartaccount.co.

The right to object to automated processing does not apply where: the decision is necessary for entry into or performance of a contract; the decision is authorised by law; or you have given explicit consent.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to assist with information extraction, identity verification, fraud detection, compliance checks, and operational efficiency. AI is not used as the sole basis for decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on individuals.

International transfers

Where we can, we store and process your data on secure servers in the UK and European Economic Area (EEA). Your data may be processed outside the UK/EEA only if a supplier requires it, or if you make or receive international payments. In all such cases we apply appropriate safeguards, including the International Data Transfer Addendum to the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Data security

All information you provide is stored on secure, encrypted servers. We have put in place appropriate technical and organisational measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used, accessed, altered, or disclosed without authorisation. Access to your personal data is limited to those who have a business need to know.

We have procedures in place to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator where legally required.

Data retention

We retain your personal data for a minimum of six years from the date you stop using SSV SmartAccount products or services, as required by law. We may retain it for longer where required to satisfy legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, or reporting obligations, or where there is a complaint or prospect of litigation.

If you request account deletion, we will delete or anonymise personal data associated with your app account, except for data we must retain for the reasons above. See Account and data deletion for how to submit a request.

In some circumstances we will anonymise your personal data for research or statistical purposes, in which case it may be used indefinitely without further notice.

Account and data deletion

If you have created an SSV SmartAccount app account, you can request deletion of your account and the personal data associated with it.

How to request deletion

  1. In the App: Profile -> Login & Security -> Close Account -> confirm.
  2. On the web (without the App): Visit https://app.ssvsmartaccount.co/account/delete. Or email info@ssvsmartaccount.co with the subject "Account deletion request" and include your full name, registered email or phone number, and User ID (if known).

We will verify your identity and process verified requests within one calendar month (or sooner where reasonably possible). You will receive confirmation once the request has been completed.

What we delete

When your deletion request is completed, we delete or anonymise personal data associated with your app account, including:

  • Account credentials and login access
  • Identity and contact details held for the app account
  • Profile data
  • Device and usage data linked to the account
  • Other personal data collected through the App, except as stated below

What we may retain

We may retain certain data where required for legal, regulatory, fraud prevention, tax, accounting, or reporting obligations (for example, transaction and compliance records).

As stated in Data retention, we generally retain such records for a minimum of six years from the date you stop using SSV SmartAccount products or services, or longer if required by law or in connection with a complaint or legal claim.

Temporary account freezing or deactivation is not offered as a substitute for account deletion. Deletion of your account is permanent and cannot be undone once completed.

Your legal rights

You have the following rights under UK data protection law. To exercise any of them, send a message in the App or email info@ssvsmartaccount.co. We will usually respond within one calendar month (up to three months for complex requests). No fee is charged unless your request is clearly unfounded, repetitive, or excessive.

  • Right to access - receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification - have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected
  • Right to erasure - ask us to delete your data (subject to legal obligations). You can do this in the App, via https://app.ssvsmartaccount.co/account/delete, or by emailing info@ssvsmartaccount.co. See Account and data deletion.
  • Right to restrict processing - ask us to suspend processing in certain circumstances
  • Right to object - object to processing based on legitimate interests, including direct marketing
  • Right to data portability - receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Right to withdraw consent - at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing
  • Right to human review - where automated decision-making has been applied

Complaints

You have the right to make a complaint at any time to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK regulator for data protection issues (www.ico.org.uk). We would appreciate the chance to deal with your concerns before you approach the ICO, so please contact us in the first instance.

Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available within the App and on our website. Any changes will become effective as soon as we post the updated version on our website and App. If we make a significant change, we will notify you by email or in-app message.
